According to them, the Syrian units were able to regain several major heights not far from the base, destroying several units of military technology and defense systems of the jihadists. Fighting continues on the outskirts of the base. On the eastern outskirts of Deir ez-Zor lies a military base surrounded by jihadists since January 2017 with more than 1,000 military personnel. The offensive was only possible after the government troops had broken through the three-year encirclement of the city.
The Syrian government army broke through the siege of the city of Deir ez-Zor on Tuesday afternoon, according to identical statements from Damascus and Moscow. The Syrian ground offensive was led by massive attacks of the Russian Air Force and a rocket attack by the frigate “Admiral Essen” on the ISIS Jihadists. They had Deir ez-Zor under control since 2014.
